The authors investigate the wonders of the human mind and the experiences of learning and memory. They provide excellent summaries of the current state of science and psychology [some would include the latter in the former category] to discuss how learning occurs. They further discuss how learning can be fostered and enhanced, as well as how we can prevent problems related to aging.
They reference case studies and their summary analysis to line out a scenario of learning patterns. The format of the book is by age, from birth to death. In this format they discuss infant learning, especially focusing on language learning and development of self-consciousness. This discussion covers interdisciplinary insights which help produce a comprehensive dynamic view of the learning process. This in turn provides useful insights into concepts of socialization.
Though the authors do not use the term "worldview," this is entailed in what they consider. Worldview involves how an individual gains a mental concept of the world and the community in which they live, and the view of objective reality that they conclude from this. They indicate what is known about the chemical and neural factors now known about the processes of learning and remembering.
In each stage the book covers both practical and theoretical insights on processes of life involving learning and relationships in society. The authors include a helpful full bibliography at the end of each chapter. They cover insights from a full range of laboratory and popular sciences.
