Grisham, John. The Innocent Man. Westminster, Maryland: Books on Tape/Random House, 2006. Audiobook. (A true story of incompetence and prejudice in a corrupt state police department and collusion to pervert the justice system. Set in Ada, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, environs I know well. Two young men were railroaded into a conviction for first-degree murder of someone they did not even know. One had a history of mental problems and periodic hospitalization, which was ignored in his trial, which resulted in a death sentence. Conviction was made on the basis of totally fabricated testimonies, some extorted by the corrupt and incompetent investigative officers of the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation. Grisham’s attention to detail and background is in excellent form here and this depressing story of unbelievable venality and gullibility is impressively compelling.) Bought 3 April 2022. Richly illustrated with photos, drawings and charts. Gives historical perspectives on each topic from each discipline and competing theories attempting to account for findings. He presents the discussion in a historical sequence that illustrates how our awareness has grown and explanations developed to account for newly found evidence at various stages of human knowledge. Includes an understandable summary of the observable changes in environmental and climatic conditions since the beginning of the industrial revolution. We learn here how the various disciplines of study and experimentation cooperate together to provide a comprehensive and very refined detail of the state of life in our world and a realistic prognosis. (This biography was extensive and very detailed, starting with Pelosi's father as a child. age provides the most extensive family and personal background of any political biography I have ever read, covering several generations of her father's and mother's family. She fills out Nancy D'Alesandro's whole history of education and influences, her family and public life and her political career. Pelosi was raised in a politically active family , with her father as a Mayor, state representative, then US representative from Baltimore. She worked as an organizer and campaigner for her father in Baltimore from her childhood, became active in the California Democratic party in California after moving there with her husband, Paul Pelosi, and continued campaigning, organizing and fund raising even as she raised her children. After her children were grown, she fulfilled her longtime desire of gong to law school and entered into the political field herself. Page interviews everyone that ever knew Pelosi , in the USA or Italy, from her childhood on, in her schools, community, churches, and political contexts. She follows the details of interaction and cites personal interviews she had with hundreds of people who knew, taught, worked with or under Pelosi or opposed her for various political positions, right through 2021 with the Trump Presidency and the COVID pandemic.)
